This experience offered me invaluable amounts of personal and professional growth I wouldn’t have gotten in America. Through this internship I truly learned the meaning of hard work.

The Intern Group staff were always in contact with me assuring me if I needed anything throughout the entirety of the program I could go to them for help which was a big relief.

The housing accommodation was truly amazing and I will cherish and hold the connections I made with everyone for my entire life.

I would definitely recommend anyone thinking of an International Internship to take the opportunity!

What was your funniest moment?

Going out after work with coworkers to celebrate the successful focus group workshops we held and seeing a lighter side of my boss and coworkers was amazing to me.

I did my Business Development training/internship in Hong Kong. It was a very interesting experience which boosted my career essentially. The Intern Group organized everything perfectly, in advance but also on premise. There was great support at all times from The Intern Group, they are very welcoming and professional. I arrived in the middle of the COVID crisis but with the help of TIG and the company in Hong Kong, it was not a big issue at all. TIG helped me to get the opportunity to work in an international company and learn about another industry and its global projects. I can definetly recommend this program without any doubts.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

Book a longer period of time. (more than 3 months)

Thank you to the TIG team for always been there every time I had a question and any kind of problems.
Because of the pandemic, there were a lot of problems with the flights, quarantines, and destinations, I had to change the first option from Melbourne to Hong Kong, and I have to say it was the best decision I could have taken, I had the best time there, the friends that I made, the experiences that I had, what I learned at a professional and personal level, the adventures, everything was better than I expected and that was because I always kept an open mind and a positive attitude.
Taking part in this program was one of the best decision I have taken, I recommend it to everyone interested in gaining professional experience and wanting to build a career abroad, but at the same time, you get to know a different culture, allowing you to grow in so many different ways. If things don't go as planned, don't worry, the TIG team will be there to help you out and figure out so you can have the best experience, but remember to always keep a positive attitude and an open mind.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

I would do it for a longer period of time, 8 weeks went just too fast!

During my 6 weeks in Hong Kong, I had a fantastic time! Everyone there was super nice and I learned a lot about Hong Kong and my internship. I liked where we were placed for our housing. It might be considered small, but the view I had from my room was amazing. My internship placement went well too! I was able to do a lot of cool digital marketing and content creation. Last but not least, the event excursions we went to were really enjoyable. Overall, I had an amazing time in Hong Kong from the food, social events, to my internship. I learned a lot and gained so much experience in a short amount of 6 weeks. A huge shoutout to The Intern Group Hong Kong team for doing such a fantastic job. I honestly had a great time and would recommend everyone to do an internship abroad :)

My degree program has a required Capstone “course” that can be filled either by taking a class, conducting research, or having an internship in the field. The InternGroup was very understanding, matching me with a company that met all of my University programs criteria. It talking with other members in the program, it felt like we were all given individual attention and support to meet our individual goals.

The InternGroup also hosted very fun tourist trips and meals. I liked that the meals were hosted all over the city, and while optional, were great opportunities to meet the other interns from around the world.

Having just secured a full-time job, and gone through the interview process, I know that my international experience made my resume stand out - my time in Hong Kong became a topic of discussion in every interview I had.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?

Honestly, it was landing at the Hong Kong airport, having been fairly calm before my trip it felt like I was hit hall of a sudden with intense nerves. So I cannot stress enough how convenient the Airport pick up and drop off was at the start and end of my program.

This was a great experience in Hong Kong! The support I received was great and there are weekly activities organised for us to explore our location! This allowed me to establish friendships with people from a variety of backgrounds which made me realize that despite our differences, there are always ways we can connect with one another! I would definitely recommend this program! This program is very international and made me understand how to build a professional circle of your own. I feel like this program allowed me to discover my weaknesses and strengths in a professional sense, which will allow me to develop further as a working professional. There are many industries and areas offered in this program which makes is very suitable for individuals with different career paths!

What would you improve about this program?

More destinations in the future! Despite the huge number of cities the program offers, adding some more less known cities would be interesting!

Having TIG find you housing, plan your events, and assist with finding a job helped a lot with having my 5 week internship be stress free. I was hesitant at first as I thought TIG was a scam but soon after I applied and started doing more research, I noticed that there a lot of success stories that came out of TIG over the years

My experience at The Red Flag Group (the company I interned at) has enhanced my job search significantly even though it was my first work experience. My manager went out of her way to teach me skills that have been essential in my job search since I finished working there.

Overall, I think that TIG HK provides a great opportunity to gain experience in a beautiful city like Hong Kong while providing the support to visit famous attractions and meet many other people within the program.

The intern group provides secure accomodation and tips for making sure your internship experience is worthwhile. I interned for 2 months and I can honestly say I had the best experience when it came to making new friends, getting to know some of my colleagues and most importantly whether I wanted to pursue consultancy as a career after I completed the program. With the intern group’s help, I was able to secure a position in a financial services consultancy company, which allowed me to gain a wide depth of knowledge and experience through my mentor. Although, my first week started off mandane, I was later given more responsibilities with projects.

Nevertheless, I had a great time also getting to explore Hong Kong people from all around the world - hiking and taking part with many excursions provided by the intern group. Definitely a worthwhile experience.

Do you provide a stipend?

Hi Subramanian! Whether these internships are paid or not is down to each specific placement company! However, their international internships do tend to be unpaid.

Hi Anas, yes recent graduates can apply for our program. Many recent graduates do our program as a way to make their resumes and CVs stand out when applying for jobs after. Plus, it's the perfect way to see a new part of the world before settling into your career.

What education qualifications do I need to hold to be qualified for this program?

Do you provide housing?

Hi Maya, Thank you for your question. We do provide housing as part of The Intern Group program. Interns on our program live in a private bedroom in a shared apartment. They share the apartment with other interns on the program, young professionals or international students.

Why did you choose this program?

I chose the program that I found through The Intern Group because I wanted to travel the world without giving up a summer of engineering experience, which is highly valuable in the eyes of employers. Since I knew nothing about Hong Kong, The Intern Group made it easy to complete an internship here as they took care of my training visa, set up interviews with employers, found appropriate housing with other interns, and set up events to explore the city and dive further into the cultural aspect that I may not have experienced otherwise.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

The Intern Group set up interviews with local companies, applied for and shipped my Hong Kong training visa to me, set up my housing in a 3-bedroom apartment shared with two other interns from The Intern Group, set up excursions to Victoria Peak, Lantau Island, and Macau, and set up smaller weekly events to help with the experience. Furthermore, they guaranteed my money back if they could not find a company that would hire me, which was good for peace of mind.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

My advice for anyone debating whether or not to do this program is, "Just do it." I was really on the fence when I made my decision to go because engineering internships in the United States pay very well, compared to me paying to do an internship in Hong Kong. But it is NOT about the money. My experience in Hong Kong was priceless. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I found to be worth every single penny. I could not be happier with my decision to go.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

In Hong Kong, work typically starts around 9-10 AM and concludes between 6-7 PM. Therefore, the main explorations involved finding different restaurants and food for dinner, and spending time getting to know the other interns. The weekend is when you may really immerse yourself in the beauty of the city. You can explore the far outreaches and the hidden gems, but be sure to make the most of the time you have because it will come to an end quicker than you expect!

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear going into the internship was that I wouldn't like it. I'm from a small town outside of Buffalo, New York, so moving to a city in Asia with 8 million people, public transportation, different food, different language, and a completely different culture was intimidating.

However, as I began to explore and learn the city of Hong Kong, I found a passion for the city life that I never knew I had. I appreciated the beauty of the skyscrapers, the ease of travel through public transportation (and Uber!) I enjoyed all of the food and got really good with chopsticks, and I found that most people speak enough English to get what you need! All of the different fears I had about moving to Hong Kong quickly became nonexistent, and I absolutely loved my experience.

What are the musts in Hong Kong?

In Hong Kong, there are a few things that every traveler needs to try. The first is eating with friends at a dim sum restaurant. Everyone sits together at a circular table and orders a few items that they would like – stuffed dumplings, spring rolls, flour rolls, egg rolls, rice, noodles, and more. When the food comes, everyone shares. This way, everyone gets to try a little bit of everything. Then, since everyone likes cheap souvenirs and gifts, check out The Ladies Market in Mong Kok or the Temple Street Night market in Tsim Sha Tsui, and be sure to bargain for a better price!

For hiking enthusiasts, I would recommend the Lion's Rock. It is much less trafficked than other hikes and offers a beautiful view over all of Kowloon and the New Territories and the main district on Hong Kong Island. Be sure to bring lots of water, and be prepared for a steep climb!

Also, the best nightlife is at Lai Kwai Fung in Central, with both bars and clubs, but be warned it is expensive. A few other things to keep you busy will be exploring the city, finding good spots for photos (many people like the multicolored Choi Hung District), exploring Chinese temples that are hidden all over the city, and going to the beach! If you do choose to go to Hong Kong, there is always something to do. There is never a dull moment in this city!

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite was travelling to Mrauk-U, Myanmar in 2017. Mrauk-U was an Angkor Wat-like archaeological site, but much untainted. I was always fond of historiography and re-imagining the glory of a fallen kingdom. The trip also took place at a time when there was a huge refugee crisis bordering Myanmar and Bangladesh. It was eye-opening to understand how the locals and the world put the issue in perspective.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have absolutely grown! I have met people from all walks of life, and picked up important soft skills in communication and emotional intelligence. For the past three years of working in this young, energetic company, I have constantly been reminding myself how to scale up whatever I am doing. It helps me see the bigger picture and be more strategic in planning.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

It is always a delight to hear success stories from our alumni. There was one who won our scholarship and joined a marketing agency in Hong Kong for a short internship. He did so well in the internship which led him an invitation by his supervisor to co-found an AI start-up focusing on chatbot. He is now the CTO, and manages a team of Software Engineers in Pakistan!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Bangkok! This is one of the newest and an excitingly different one from the mainstream destinations. Bangkok is more affordable, English-speaking, environment friendly, and is arguably a working holiday! It is a good place if you are keen about emerging economy. Southeast Asia is the hub for growth in the coming decades!

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

The Intern Group is the most diverse in terms of program destinations we offer. Our organization places equal emphasis on interns' professional experience as well as their cultural enrichment. I am most proud when my team goes the extra mile, and surprises our clients with extra benefits. We are looking for not only a deal, but a friendship that lasts.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

As a company in the service industry, good customer service is always the key. Swift communication and emotional intelligence are the guiding principles. Being able to think two steps ahead and addressing inquiries proactively are qualities clients would appreciate. When a company grows in scale and streamlines its operations, it is equally important that they do not lose the personal touch with their customers! Feeling the presence is a form of customization!
