The best six weeks of my life!

When I was looking for sunmer internships abroad to get some working experience, I happened to stumble upon TGI by accident. After gathering more information, I grew a lot of interest about their Barcelona program and decided it didnt hurt to give it a shot. It was the best decision I had ever made! Those who run the program are extremely helpful and just a call or text away if you need anything, whether during the enrollment process or once you're settled there. The company I was pired with was exactly what I was looking for and I learned so much. I would highly recomend giving it a shot to anyone who is looking for an adventure and some valuable work experience. Not to mention, the city is absolutely stunning and filled with diversity and life.

Barcelona Summer Internship

My internship experience in Barcelona this summer with The Intern Group was great. The Intern Group sets up everything for you, from getting you your actual internship to housing and transportation. Barcelona is an amazing city and I felt very safe the whole time. I would say it is safer then most cities in the world. The Culture in Barcelona is awesome as well. I would recommend learning a few simple phrases in Spanish but it really is not necessary to know Spanish to have a successful internship. When I first arrived I wanted to meet people and make friends to explore the city and take weekend trips with. Caterina who was my coordinator with TIG set up a full social calendar for us and I met lots of friends, many of whom I am still in touch with. One of the biggest highlights for me was making new friends from all over the world. My actual internship proved to be a bit of a challenge just because the work culture in Barcelona is a little different then here in the US, but I still managed to make connections and learn a lot at my internship and I still keep in contact with my internship boss. Overall if you are considering doing an internship abroad I would say go for it you wont regret it! and I would recommend The Intern Group in Barcelona to anyone looking to Intern Abroad.

What would you improve about this program?
During my internship It would have been nice if they gave me a more well defined timetable for my tasks.

Thanks to the Intern Group

This was a wonderful experience, and if anyone ask me, I would definitely recommend it. This might be scary to go to another country, where people speak a different language, but the Intern Group takes care of you before you come, prepares you and takes care while you are there.
The internship in the company has an impact in your future, even if you are not sure whether that is the career you want. You get to know the real life in another country, get to know local people and learn something new. Also, that is an opportunity to make friends in another country!

What would you improve about this program?
It would probably be better if the Intern Group gave more information about accommodation, as it was a bit of a surprise when I came.

TIG Barcelona

I interned with TIG Barcelona. It was one of the most memorable trips of my life. They took very good care of everything and organised plenty of events throughout our stay.

It is also an amazing experience as you make new friends and build connections from all over the world which is extremely helpful later on.

I would recommend this program to people looking to intern in Spain, as it is an amazing experience.

What would you improve about this program?
A clear picture about the accommodation should be given earlier. A lot of people had problems with their housing.

The complete experience & recommendations

As a 4th (going to 5th) year student, I have faced several highs and lows throughout university. Before coming to Barcelona, I had worked at two internships, one in Puerto Rico and one in New Jersey. Even though I have this experience, why did I choose to continue on to doing an international internship in Barcelona?
Initially, I really wanted to leave my comfort zone and do an exchange but I wasn't fond of being such a long time studying away from home and I also thought of vacationing here but I wouldn't be ale to live like a local. So doing an international internship was the best of both worlds.
I'm an engineering student and I came here for 10 weeks. Work culture here in general is very different than in PR and the US and it's great to have been able to experience it.
Barcelona is an amazing city with a relaxed feel to it. There's something here for everybody, although a lot of tourists come to Barcelona, living here for the summer immerses you to find opportunities to do things that locals do and see how people live as oppose to what you're normally used to.

Things you must do: Eat tomato bread (ask a local to see if they can teach you how to make it) and olives, visit "Los bunkers de carmel", go to Barceloneta beach, Castelldefels beach, Sitges beach, Shop at local markets (the closest one near me was Mercat Hostafrancs near Sants. La boqueria and Mercat Sant Antoni are some of the larger ones), get bread at bakeries, find festivals (The intern group guide suggests many of them and they are worth it!), museums are great too, and many more things.

My recommendations: Come to Barcelona with an open mind to any problem that comes, there's always a way to communicate and find a solution and you'll get the most enjoyment and learning out of being here. Planning out your weeks will help a lot but have flexibility in case anything pops up last minute.

What would you improve about this program?
A more specific explanation of whats included in terms of cultural events and the flat would eliminate any confusion. Several interns have commented to me that they're paying a ton and "nothing is included" (which i believe is not true, they just don't make the most of what they have).
But it would help

Best summer of my life!

I participated in the Barcelona as a Sophomore in College. At first i was scared, my parents trusted me in making this decision if it would help my future and the start of my career. As soon as I landed in the Barcelona airport I was greeted. My worried immediately left when i met the helpful staff. They prepared everything for my arrival. I started my internship a few days later. The weekend events were a plus! and by the end of the summer I felt like a local and a lot more confident in my field. I would recommend this program to anyone that is looking for a combination of enjoying an abroad experience AND at the same making sure you are working to become more marketable upon graduation!

What would you improve about this program?
I wished I enrolled into the program earlier! to prepare better
