Yes, I recommend this program

The best summer EVER!

While looking into study abroad programs, I knew I wanted a program that would give me the support I needed to fulfill my dream of studying in London. CISAbroad was so supportive of me every step of the way throughout the study abroad process. Before, during, and after my time abroad, CIS made sure I had the resources I needed to be successful. The on-site staff in London were phenomenal and were always willing to help my peers and I when needed. CISAbroad's planned excursions added so much depth to my experience, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I loved getting to meet other students from around the United States. I see myself staying in touch with some of these new friends for a lifetime, as we shared in such an unforgettable experience together. I would study abroad again with CIS in a heartbeat!

Yes, I recommend this program

A Summer of Adventure in London

My experience in London at the University of Roehampton was amazing! The university was about 45 minutes from the city, which helped me become an expert in the transportation system around London. I participated in excursions put together by the University of Roehampton, as well as those put together by CISabroad. I highly recommend going on excursions like these, even if they are an extra cost to your program, just for the experience and convenience of it. Going with a group of people you know, not having to plan it, and getting to visit amazing places was well worth the added cost.
In terms of my classes, both of my professors seemed to realize we were mainly there to travel. Although we did have a decent amount of work to do, a large part of both of my classes involved trips around the city.
I feel like going abroad has made me a much more confident person. I now know I can live on my own in a foreign city, and have fun while doing so! At the very least, studying abroad has opened the door in terms of traveling for me - I want to go to so many more places in the world and I'm no longer afraid to go on my own. I cannot recommend studying abroad to anyone more strongly. If you have the ability to go, and have even the slightest interest in a foreign country or city, check out CISabroad or your university's programs and go!

What would you improve about this program?
The only negative experience of my entire trip to London was the dorms. The dorms were typical freshmen dorms - small and shared with several people. We had a flat-style dorm, so you had your own room but shared a bathroom and kitchen with 4 other people. This was never a problem for me and I didn't mind the size, but others complained about both. The main drawback for me was that the buildings were really old and had problems with the fire alarms going off constantly, which the university did nothing to fix. So my program could have been improved by having the university fix the fire alarm problems, or putting us into another dorm (there were several empty ones on campus) once they had determined that the fire alarms were constantly going off due to dust and not an actual fire threat.

Why did you choose this program?

I chose the CISabroad program at the University of Roehampton because it was the best fit for me. I did a lot of research about various programs prior to deciding where to study abroad. This program was the right number of credits at the right price for me. Also, I've always wanted to go to Europe, so this program seemed perfect for me!

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

My university and program provider assisted me with very similar things. They both helped me set up insurance for when I was there, made sure I had all of the emergency forms filled out and submitted, and helped me plan events for while I was there. I did have to organize my own plane tickets and any trips I wanted to do on my own.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

Both CISabroad and my university told me not to plan anything in advance, which is good advice in general. It's nice to be able to do events and go places spontaneously and not be bogged down by a specific time schedule. However, I do wish I had planned a bit more in terms of where I wanted to go and tickets I needed to get ahead of time. I'm not saying plan your whole trip, but I would advise you to at least make a list of the places you know you want to go to while abroad.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

An average day Monday-Thursday involved taking classes in the morning until around 2 PM. Then I would grab a snack at my dorm before heading into the city center. I would usually visit one or two attractions, or maybe a museum. Then, I'd find a place to eat, have dinner, and walk around some more before heading back to my dorm and doing some homework. On the weekends, I did most of my bigger excursions and trips outside of London.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear was that I would be really homesick and hate being abroad on my own. I didn't personally know anyone else in my program before I went abroad, so I was scared of just being lonely for 6 weeks. However, everyone is in the same boat as you, and it was not hard at all for me to find friends who wanted to do the same things I did. I just made sure to grab as many people's numbers as possible the first few days and then I planned some trips into the city with those people. I also talked to my parents pretty much every week, so I didn't get homesick.
