About Program

Expect to be deeply engaged with your studies and host culture. Site visits within Florence and field trips throughout Italy and beyond are integral to the academic program, and your homestay will round out both your personal and educational experience. Consider supplementing your academic program with one of over 50 internship opportunities.

The SU Florence program features specialized programs in architecture (for undergraduates and graduates), intensive Italian language, design, studio arts, and engineering. A cluster of courses focusing on sustainability studies is also available, as is a graduate program in Renaissance art.

Students are encouraged to enroll in fall, spring, or summer semesters! During the Florence Summer Session, students enroll in 3-9 credits.

Internships are also available for 1-3 credits in a variety of fields. In fall and spring, students must be enrolled in the semester program in order to take part in an internship.

Fun, American University Experience in Florence

I studied abroad at Syracuse University Florence in Spring 2013 and had a great experience. There were a wide array of classes offered, from painting to film, and many included field trips around Florence and other Italian cities. I particularly enjoyed living with an Italian host family, a retired couple. This allowed me to really practice my Italian; I still keep in contact with my host family. The only drawback is only American students are enrolled in the program, making it difficult to befriend Italian students.

excellent Masters in Art History

I attended SUF's masters program in art history that consists of 4 months in Syracuse New York, followed by 12 months in Florence Italy - for sure the better part of the program!!

The masters is really good experience for continuing in grad school or for learning about life in Italy. You get a better exposure than you do in just an undergrad program. We had hands on access to famous artworks and historical archives, the best library access, and produced original research.
