For $1,500, you'll see the iconic harbour and city beaches, then head outside of the city for campfires, dolphin watching, sand boarding, beach hopping, boat riding and hanging out with our resident kangaroo, Josie!

Start your working holiday in Australia meeting new friends, and doing heaps of fun activities and then hit the ground running when you're back at our hosting centre with our local staff helping you get settled into your new city. The SWAP 7 day welcome tour was incredible. Before leaving Canada they helped me obtain my visa, sort out flights and answered all my questions about spending a year abroad. I had someone pick me up at the airport and take me directly to my pre-booked amazing accommodation in Sydney. The next morning I met everyone in my group, there was about 50 of us. Bank accounts had already been opened for us, mobile SIM's were received the first day and our TNF was applied for as soon as we landed in Australia! Having those things done for me made everything so simple, and I knew I had someone to help if I had any issues. The 7 day tour was really worth it because we got to leave the city and go to Port Stephens. We went sand boarding which I wouldn't have had the opportunity to do otherwise. It was about 45 degrees that day so the sand just stuck to all of our sweat, gross but fun! Having the 7 day tour was really awesome because it helped me be comfortable and get my bearings before being completely alone. The travel staff helped us write our resumes, we got discounts on courses to serve alcohol, and they helped book all our future travels (with discounts)! Through the tour we were able to get a discount of a surf camp that was one of the highlights of my trip. Not only did I see a TON in my 7 day tour, I also made some amazing friends. I ended up living with a few of the people I met that first week and we already have plans to meet in England next year. Doing SWAP was the best decision and it really helped me love my time abroad. I would recommend it to anyone, especially those going alone!

What would you improve about this program?
Before going to Australia I was slightly confused about the difference between SWAP and Ultimate. In the future maybe just say UltimateOZ runs the 7 day tour in Australia and they are partnered with SWAP.

Nicole is a Program Coordinator at SWAP Working Holidays. After graduating from Ryerson University in Toronto, she set her sights on Ireland, and sought after SWAP to help her achieve her dream of traveling and living abroad. Through a turn of serendipitous events, Nicole now helps send other lucky Canadians on the adventure of a lifetime!

What is your favorite travel memory?

One of my favorite memories is conquering the Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge in Northern Ireland! It may not seem too high but I was pretty proud of myself for making it across (and back again -- it leads to an island!)

Another favorite memory of mine is having seen the encompassing sprawl of Tokyo from atop the Metropolitan Government Building. At night, seeing the lights twinkle across the sea of skyscrapers really made me feel like I was far from home, but in the best way possible.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I started at SWAP as a Marketing Intern in 2012, and have changed positions a few times since then. I'm incredibly lucky to work with an amazing group of people, and to have learned about so many aspects of creating amazing travel opportunities.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

I can't choose just one! Every year we check in with our Swappers and reading their stories is the best part of my job. Skydiving, snorkeling, road trips, concerts, meeting their best friends, falling in love, landing their dream job, traveling across Europe...their experiences inspire me and really make my job worthwhile when I see all they have accomplished.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

It's not a question of if, but when! I definitely plan on traveling to South Africa to volunteer on our Soweto orphanage program.

We carefully vet our volunteer programs to ensure the help we send benefits the cause.

I cannot wait to meet the amazing staff who care for the children and help make a positive impact on those children's lives.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

We are Canadian owned and operated, and one of our core values is to offer affordable travel experiences to Canadians across the country. It is really great working for a not for profit organization who truly values the experience of travel and the happiness of our participants.
